Documentary wedding photography for couples getting married in Tuscany, from Florence and the Chianti hills to the Val d'Orcia. I photograph your day as it unfolds, with no posing and no interruptions: all you have to do is be there.
The approach
Your day, told the way you lived it.
It starts in a room full of people and a zip that won't go up. It ends with someone dancing barefoot at two in the morning. In between is everything you have spent a year planning, often from another country, and it will go by faster than you can imagine. I follow it from beginning to end, in the order it happens.
I don't stop the day to photograph it. I won't ask you to walk in again, line you up against a wall or tell you where to look. I wait, and I shoot as things happen: it's the only way a photograph keeps the face you really had in that moment. This is documentary wedding photography.
What you take home is the whole story of your day: how you looked at each other during the vows, how you laughed at the speeches of the people who love you, how the dance floor filled up late into the night. Wedding photographs that look like you, and nobody else.
Only one moment is planned in advance: your portraits, about twenty minutes when the Tuscan light is at its most beautiful. For everything else, there is nothing you need to prepare.

How I see a wedding
Four moments every wedding shares. These are real couples, in villas, country estates and farmhouses across Tuscany: look at them and picture your own day.
Getting ready
I arrive early, while it's still a little chaotic and nobody is thinking about photos. Make-up, the dress, your sister hunting for the shoes, the first relatives knocking at the door. It's the last morning that belongs only to you, and it goes by faster than you think.
The ceremony
Civil, religious or symbolic, in a chapel, a town hall or a villa garden. You find each other's eyes as you walk in, hands tighten during the readings, you laugh as you sign. These are the minutes when everything happens without anyone directing it: I stay in the background, and I never interrupt or ask you for anything.
Sunset portraits
The only time I take you away, and it lasts twenty minutes. You walk, you talk, you forget I'm there: after months of planning, it's the first time you're just the two of you again, with the Tuscan hills behind you. Then you go back to your guests.
The party
Speeches, cake, the first dance and whatever happens after midnight. Low light, people moving, no second chances. It's the part I photograph best, and the one you'll look back on laughing.

It doesn't depend on the kind of wedding you are planning, but on the photographs you want to look at in twenty years. This is when a documentary approach works best.
You want to relive your day, not just flick through it
That's the point of documentary wedding photography: not a selection of the moments when you looked your best, but the story of what really happened, in the order it happened.
You don't want to perform
Wedding photography without posing works like this: no directions, no asking you to repeat a gesture, no stopping a scene to do it better. Something repeated is no longer what happened, and that's the difference between a photograph and a staged scene.
You love a party the way it is
The child running across the dance floor during your first dance, the uncle who bursts into song, the grass stains on the hem of the dress. In your wedding photographs they stay exactly like that.
You're planning from far away
You live in another country and can't meet your suppliers face to face. We'll organise everything by email and video call, and on the day I work alongside your planner and venue: one less thing to think about.

How it works
Before, during and after your wedding
Planning a wedding in Italy from abroad can feel like a lot. Here is how we'll work together, wherever you are writing from.
Let's talk
A video call at a time that suits your time zone. Tell me your date, venue, number of guests and how many days you are celebrating, and I'll tell you how I would photograph it.
Your proposal
A clear written proposal built around your wedding: the hours and days I'll be there, what you'll receive and when, all in black and white. Your date is secured with a signed agreement and a 30% deposit.
The day
I arrive, say hello, and from then on the day is yours. I won't pull you away for photos or ask you to change your plans for me: I work around what you and your planner have organised. And if something changes at the last minute, I'm usually the first to notice.
Your photographs
Every photograph that tells the story of your wedding, plus around ten retouched couple portraits, delivered online within two months. A printed album is available on request.

Do you speak English?
Yes. We can plan everything in English: email is perfect for the details, and we can have a video call whenever you like.
Where do you photograph weddings?
All over Tuscany, from Florence and the Chianti hills to Siena and the Val d'Orcia, and anywhere else you are getting married, in Italy or abroad. Travel costs are always included in your written proposal, with no surprises.
Can you photograph a wedding that lasts several days?
Yes. Many couples celebrate over two or three days, with a welcome dinner, the wedding day and a brunch or pool party the day after. You choose which moments you would like me to photograph, and the proposal is built around them.
Can you work with our wedding planner and venue?
Of course. I coordinate timings and details directly with your planner and venue, so you don't have to be the go-between.
What does documentary wedding photography mean?
It means I don't direct you or ask you to repeat things: I photograph the day as it happens. The only exception is agreed in advance, about twenty minutes of portraits when the light softens.
Can we add a second photographer, video or drone?
Yes, all three. A second photographer can be added whenever you like, in the same proposal. For wedding video and drone footage I work with trusted professionals whom I coordinate myself, so you only ever deal with me.
How far in advance should we book, and how do we secure our date?
May, June and September dates in Tuscany are often booked a year ahead, so it is best to write as soon as you have a date and a venue. Your date is secured once we sign the agreement and you pay a 30% deposit by bank transfer.
How is the price calculated?
It depends on the hours you would like me there, how many days you are celebrating and any extras, such as a second photographer or video. Tell me how your wedding is planned and I will send you a written proposal, travel included.
How many photos will we receive, and when?
There is no fixed number: I deliver every photograph that tells the story of your day, plus around ten retouched couple portraits. Photos are delivered online within two months of the wedding.
May, June and September dates are booked a year in advance.

Hi, I'm Marco
If you've read this far, I should probably introduce myself.
I've been photographing weddings since 2022. I take my inspiration from cinema more than from posed photography: I photograph real people, living their day.
That's why I work with the light I find and the rhythm the day already has. I don't arrive with an idea of how it should go: I'm there to see how it goes.
I work alone or with a second photographer, whichever you prefer, and I'm happy to travel wherever you are getting married. On request there is also video and drone, with people I work with regularly. You only ever talk to me.
Then there's the part I love most: when you open your photographs and feel again the energy of a dance or the emotion of a glance. When that happens, I've done my job well.
